Tyne and Wear, Newcastle-upon-Tyne
Price: Not priced
This is a one year part-time taught course which consists of 10 didactic days of lectures and seminars and 12 half days of hands-on clinical training in sedation techniques. Didactic and clinical teaching is spaced evenly over a full academic year. Although based at Newcastle University, teaching is provided in academic and clinical facilities throughout the northern region (Newcastle, Sunderland and Darlington).

As a qualified dental practitioner, this course will give you the knowledge and skills necessary to use intravenous and inhalational sedation techniques on a wide range of anxious patients, including adults and children. The programme has an excellent reputation and is considered to be the gold standard in sedation training. Previous students have come from general practice, community and dental services from the UK and Ireland.

The Postgraduate Diploma aims to provide you with:
• systematic understanding of the theoretical principles that underpin conscious sedation and anxiety management in dentistry;
• comprehensive practical understanding of clinical skills in techniques of intravenous and inhalational sedation, as applicable to UK practice in dentistry;
• the ability to critically evaluate the evidence-base and clinical issues involved in the safe independent practice of conscious sedation to the highest standard.

There is a limited number of places and the closing date for our 2020 courses which begin in April and October is 14 December 2019.

You must have completed a primary dental qualification at least one year before the start of the course. This needs to be recognised by the (UK) General Dental Council. You must also hold full registration with the (UK) General Dental Council by the closing date of the course.
